Youth Opportunities

Our month-long Japanese, German and Mexican Student Ambassador Exchange Programs for high school students provide opportunities for youth to strengthen their foreign language skills and learn about different cultures and customs in one of our Sister Cities.  They begin by hosting a student from one of our Sister Cities in their home in Santa Monica for two weeks and then traveling to our Sister City to spend two weeks in the home of the student that they just hosted.  Ambassadors experience typical family life in each other’s countries, see local sights, and officially represent their home cities as good will ambassadors.

Internships for college-aged students and young adults offer an opportunity to develop professional skills under the umbrella of citizen diplomacy by volunteering at governmental and business entities related to their own interests.  Typical stays are 4–6 weeks where interns are mentored by local public relations, tourist and community relations staff while staying with host families.

International sports tournaments offer opportunities to compete with youth from other countries, participate in a wide variety of activities in foreign countries and share their culture with each other.
